This customer found us via Checkatrade after discovering a serious issue with their conservatory floor collapsing. The property had been standing for over 10 years, so the failure came as a complete shock.
Once we lifted the existing flooring, we uncovered the root of the problem: the conservatory had been built over old external decking, which had later been tiled over. Over time, the overflowing water had caused the decking and joists to rot and weaken, leading to the floor giving way.
We carried out a full conservatory floor strip-out, removing all rotten and water-damaged joists before thoroughly cleaning the subfloor. During this process, we discovered a blocked drain beneath the conservatory, which was the main cause of the structural failure. We cleared the blockage and resolved the drainage issue to prevent future problems.
The floor was then rebuilt properly from the ground up:
• Installed a new damp proof membrane (DPM)
• Fitted new treated timber joists with additional structural supports
• Laid 18mm tongue and groove chipboard flooring
• Added a second DPM layer
• Installed insulated underlay
• Finished with 8mm water-resistant laminate flooring
• Completed with 5-inch pencil round skirting boards
The entire conservatory floor repair and replacement was completed in just 2 days at a property in Leamington Spa, leaving the customer with a solid, level, and fully moisture-protected floor built to modern standards.
